About The Ice Co Storage and Logistics
The Ice Co Storage and Logistics is the temperature controlled storage and distribution arm of the J Marr Group. It all started in 1860 with Joseph Marr, who had grown into an entrepreneurial fish and ice merchant in Hull. Ice was needed to keep the catch cold however it wasn’t so readily available in those days, so it was imported from the glaciers in Norway, or fields were flooded in the UK to form ice.
By 1908 the demand for ice had grown dramatically and The Fylde Ice & Cold Storage Company was established, in which J Marr and Son took some shares. Its purpose was to manufacture ice for fish merchants and crushed ice for trawlers.
By 1927, to complement the demand for ice, came a demand for cold storage and Fylde Ice built its first cold store to offer cold storage services to fish merchants.
Over the following years demand for ice and cold storage continued to grow and investments into new sites to manufacture ice and store frozen products continued.
In 2007, continued growth and investment led to the purchase of the site in South Kirkby, West Yorkshire which became the Head Office Site. A new ice factory was built, and cold storage services were expanded to further third party customers.
A company rebrand and streamline in 2010 split ice manufacturing and our cold storage services into their own two separate brands within the J Marr Group, The Ice Co and The Ice Co Storage & Logistics.
Now, six generations on and with over 20 years’ experience in the supply chain, The Ice Co Storage & Logistics offers bespoke third party cold storage and distribution solutions nationwide. Group investment, acquisition and improved IT systems means we now operate from six sites across the UK, of which four are dedicated to cold storage, with over 51,000 pallet spaces and our own modern fleet of temperature controlled vehicles.
