A message from the Chief Executive Officer

Thank you for your interest in coming to join the fantastic team at Doncaster Chamber. The role of Policy, Communications and Events Director is an exciting new position within our leadership team.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in delivering our ambitious business plan. Even more importantly, they will ensure that our members and the wider business community are authentically represented and well served by an impactful Chamber that is working closely with its partners to deliver a growing and prosperous Doncaster economy.

The Chamber is a not for profit organisation that works for the betterment of the private sector and the region. Great things are happening in our borough and Doncaster is currently the fourth fastest growing place in the UK for private sector job creation. We have also seen the recent delivery of key projects such as Doncaster Sheffield Airport, Cast Theatre, the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, the National College for Advanced Transport and Infrastructure, Doncaster University Technical College, the Great Yorkshire Way and many more besides. The Chamber has had a part to play in all of these projects in addition to providing ‘here and now’ support to our members via a range of membership services and business growth programmes.

Working at the Chamber offers a terrific opportunity to do great things for the borough, its businesses and people. Uniquely, we are able to do this in a private sector setting and with the freedom to make (and break) our own rules. So, whilst the Chamber collaborates meaningfully and brilliantly with its public sector partners, the style and feel of our organisation is that of an ambitious and nimble growing business. Indeed, ‘empowerment’ is one of our core values and we will expect the successful candidate to lead by example.

Relative to its size, the Chamber is comparatively complex. Our clients include: patron and member businesses that subscribe to the Chamber; entrepreneurs and growing companies that access our early stage business support and international trade programmes; and the schools and young people that we work with to promote work readiness and careers in Doncaster. We also work with a wide range of key partners including: politicians, councils, Local Enterprise Partnerships, education providers and the media.

Our new Policy, Communications and Events Director will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the outward presentation of the Chamber – via our events, communications and stakeholder management – is consistent and credible regardless of which client base we are working with at the time. Additionally, the events and communications team – led by the successful candidate – will provide a critical internal service to the Chief Operating Officer and their membership, business support and education teams. Delivering a fabulous events programme and ambitious marketing strategy will help all colleagues achieve their operational and commercial objectives.

These are exciting times for the Chamber and for Doncaster. Our ambitions for ourselves and for the business community we are privileged to serve are sky high.

Thank you for your interest in working with the Chamber and good luck with your application.

Dan Fell,
Chief Executive Officer
