Why work for us
The dream of Bluebell Wood began in 1998, with the vision to help families in this area who wanted an alternative to hospital care. Fundraising started after 11-year-old Richard and his mum wanted him to pass away at home.
In 2004, after six years of fantastic community support, our £4.5 million dream come true and we began to build the hospice. On 19th September 2008, we opened our doors to the first families who needed us.
Since then, we’ve helped hundreds of children and their families enjoy a life of love and laughter; whether they have had years, months, weeks or days together.
We’ve helped tired mums and dads get some much needed me-time; looked after brothers and sisters who are feeling angry, lonely or confused; and been there for families during the last moments of their child’s life.
Without our supporters the last ten years just wouldn’t have been possible: donations have paid for every day trip, funded every session of sensory play, and made sure we can be there through every night of end of life care.
But our life-changing care doesn’t stop now. Over the next ten years we want to reach even more families, and show them all the fantastic things we can offer.
We want to continue to shatter the myth that hospice care is a sad and scary place, and make sure every family gets the care they need, when they need it most.
